Mental Health Behavioral Aide

Job Summary: 

In this role you will practice various behavioral/skill-based interventions with young children, adolescents, or adults by showing skills in different ways that are taught by a mental health practitioner. 

This position is similar to a paraprofessional that works with the child to practice the skills that may have been missed or delayed as a result of mental illness. Skill-building activities include anger management, problem solving, communication, social, and interpersonal skills, etc. in various settings such as in-home/community.

You will learn about various mental health diagnosis such as ADHD, autism spectrum, reactive attachment disorder, PTSD, anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, and other pertinent diagnosis). You will have the opportunity to observe how various mental health diagnosis present themselves in different age populations and expand your knowledge in interventions. 

Location Service: 

This position is half-time in Hayfield Elementary School and half-time in the in-home/community setting within Dodge County. 

Hayfield Elementary School: http://hayfield.k12.mn.us/hayfield-elementary/  Home of the Viking Pride. 

Hours Available:   This position is available for full-time or part-time and hours will include afternoon and evening hours, Monday-Friday. 

Hours within the school setting will during unstructured time (e.g. special education class, lunch period, and recess time. 

Training Structure: 

Next start date is Monday, October 8th. Training consists of four (4) weeks of shadowing both Mental Health Behavioral Aide’s from other counties and Clinicians in our Dodge team. It also includes a combination of both classroom and hands-on training. You will learn paperwork format, Fernbrook relationship-based approach, policies, interventions, and more. You will also go to a Parent Team Meeting that is held in St. Paul Minnesota on a Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.

  • Reinforce individual and family skills sessions
  • Caseload will consist of 5-6 clients between the ages of 6-11 years old
  • Communicate with children, families, and or caregivers
  • Enter progress notes into an Electronic Medical Record
  • Receive direction from practitioner level clinicians
  • Assist caregivers with behavioral support
  • Participate in weekly clinical meetings/clinical supervisors
  • Other duties as assigned 


  • Must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma
  • Have reliable transportation/valid driver’s license/vehicle insurance
  • Must be available to work some evenings per week
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, valid automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record
  • Must pass criminal background check based on agency and Department of Human Services requirements
