Union Sanitary District (USD) is an award-winning, innovative independent special district formed in 1918 providing wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal services to the residents and businesses in the Tri-cities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City in southern Alameda County (south-eastern Bay Area).

Examples of Duties

We currently have a great entry-level opportunity for a responsible individual to assist our Fleet Mechanics who are responsible for the maintenance of District vehicles and equipment. This position will work approximately 18 hours per week. Some of your duties would include:

  • Change oil and lubricate small portable equipment
  • Assist with minor vehicle maintenance
  • Assist Fleet Mechanics as instructed
  • Assist with shop clean-up including spills, and sweep and empty trash
  • Complete work orders
  • May pick up parts and supplies as needed from local suppliers
  • Fuel vehicles and check fluid levels
  • Wash, clean, polish and maintain exterior finishes of vehicles and equipment
  • Clean and maintain interiors of vehicles
  • Provide back-up assistance for trash and recycling collection for District, including back-up for the janitorial staff.
    This position is classified as casual and does not include benefits .


The ideal candidate...

  • You must be able to comply with safety procedures and adhere to District policies.
  • Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English and communicate effectively.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 46 pounds and use standard hand tools.
  • Must have basic computer skills to process work orders, use MS Outlook and complete timecard.
  • You must maintain a satisfactory attendance record, be punctual and reliable, and demonstrate initiative.
